The Skin Barrier: A Visual
We use the term skin barrier often, but what does it mean?
Envision your skin as a brick wall. The epidermis is the outermost layer. It consists of multiple sub-layers, including the stratum corneum, composed of dead skin cells that are constantly shed and replaced.
The bricks are called corneocytes, flattened dead skin cells, waiting their turn to gradually slough off.
The mortar consists of lipids – fatty acids, ceramides, and cholesterol. When these lipids are depleted or stripped away, microscopic cracks open up, allowing water to escape and irritants to enter.
When the skin barrier, or brick wall, is compromised, the skin feels reactive, flaky, tight, and dry. Products that never bothered it before may sting. It may become more sensitive to detergents, artificial dyes, and fragrances.

The secret to a high performing minimalist routine is synergy. Sheep Tallow’s oleic acid enhances skin penetration and allows other beneficial compounds to be absorbed more effectively. Sheep Tallow contains 10% more Oleic acid than bovine tallow. A minimalist routine demands efficacy: no water, no fillers, no synthetic emulsifiers or preservatives. Only synergistic ingredients that nourish the skin and natural microbiome.

The Sheep Tallow Company was founded with one objective in mind: to elevate tallow
skincare by using active levels of powerful, pure ingredients, to deliver multi-beneficial performance capable of offering transformative support through every season of life.
As a shepherdess, dedicated to regenerative techniques, I see everyday how the health of our soil is linked to the health of our families. I know firsthand how the methods we use affect the quality of the end product. I take pride in caring for each piece: from the healthy soil that produces the grass, to the flock of sheep who eat it, to the formulas in the bottles on the counter. It’s a small, clean ecosystem able to produce highly effective skincare.
As a mother, I know that what we put on our skin, is as important as what we chose to put in our mouths. Our skin constitutes our largest organ. It rapidly absorbs what we put on it. For centuries tallow was a skincare staple, but as petroleum and lab created ingredients became more prevalent- tallow fell out of favor. Yet as hormone disruptors and chemical irritants have taken a toll on our health there has been an outcry for simple, safe and dependable alternatives.
